ORCHIDS AND DIAMONDS

ORCHIDS AND DIAMONDS

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I’ve got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
MAYA ANGELOU

Have you heard of labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that removes ‘excess’ tissue from the labia, making it smaller. In essence, genital plastic surgery: women choosing to have a scalpel slice off the oh so sensitive flesh of their labia, usually because they believe their vulva is wrong and ugly.

To me, this is voluntary female genital mutilation.

It makes me shudder. It hurts my soul.

Millions of women in the world endure involuntary genital mutilation, and now western women are choosing it.

Because they’re trying to conform to an idea of what they’re supposed to look like, conditioned by pornography.

Because of our lack of understanding about our bodies and our sexuality.

The increasing banality of labiaplasty is an extreme symptom of women’s deep disconnection with the beauty of their bodies and their feminine essence.

As women, we’ve been taught to endure a lot of pain and misery for the sake of appearances and other’s ideals of who we should be. Beauty is suffering…

So many of us have learned to feel disgust and shame for our genitals. So we try to tame and control this wild part of us.

Yet how can we truly love ourselves if we can’t embrace this most sacred part of our feminine body?

My vulva (I prefer to call her pussy as I’ve reclaimed this word!) is as unique as an orchid.

Orchid flowers come in so many shapes and colours and sizes.

They’re highly valued and admired because of their diversity, especially those of unusual and extraordinary shapes.

What would happen if women actually learned to value and admire their unique pussies, their divine vulvas?

This wild, sacred beauty between our thighs.

Our primal, powerful and divine pussies.

Source of life.

Source of extatic pleasure.

Flesh and blood and juices and hair and fragrance.

The most animal place, and the most sacred, where pleasure and creation entwine.

Our soft, tender labia.

Our exquisite clitoris, the only organ in the human body created solely for pleasure. Image that!

What would happen if we saw this most feminine part of ourselves as precious and powerful?

What would happen if YOU saw yourself as precious and powerful?

What if you danced as if you had orchids and diamonds at the meeting of your thighs?

What if all women danced as if they had orchids and diamonds at the meeting of their thighs?

Imagine that world.
